Priority Areas
In all its priority areas FES Nigeria cooperates with Nigerian and international partner organisations who share its basic values and ideas. FES Nigeria currently focuses on three priority areas:
- Good Governance and Democracy Promotion
FES Nigeria cooperates with partners to improve the transparency of budgets and strengthen accountability in the budget process, particularly at state and local government levels. At the national level, FES Nigeria cooperates with selected National Assembly committees. Gender and politics as well as the role of youth in politics are also important parts of the project. By commissioning and coordinating studies and publications, including a Discussion Paper Series, FES Nigeria enhances the understanding of and facilitates public dialogue on policy issues and politics in Nigeria. - Trade Union Cooperation
FES Nigeria cooperates with and supports the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). While labour rights issues are central to this project area the political role of trade unions and the labour movement in Nigeria are also addressed. - Nigeria’s Role in International Relations
FES Nigeria increasingly works on Nigeria’s role in international affairs at the West African, African and global level. The main partner in this project area is the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA).
Gender and the role of youth are mainstreamed in all project areas.
Apart from these national priority areas, FES Nigeria also contributes to the FES Globalisation Project, the FES Global Trade Unions Project, the FES West African Regional Projects on Economic Integration and Trade and Security Policy and the ACP-EU Project, amongst others, by facilitating Nigerian participation in regional and global debates.
